New Residents

On behalf of the Barkley Square Homeowners Association (HOA), we would like to extend our warmest congratulations on the purchase of your new home. We hope that you are settling in well and enjoying your new surroundings.

As a member of the community, it is important that you are aware of the covenants that were put in place to ensure that our community remains a beautiful and harmonious place to live. The covenants are designed to maintain the aesthetics of the neighborhood, protect property values, and ensure that all residents can enjoy a peaceful living environment.

We kindly remind you to take some time to review and familiarize yourself with the covenants that apply to your property. A copy should have been provided to you at your closing. They can also easily be accessed on our website barkleysquarehoa.com or we can also provide copies.

Some of the key covenants that you should be aware of include the following:

Maintenance of your property: As a homeowner, you are responsible for maintaining your property in good condition. This includes keeping your yard clean and well-maintained, repairing any damage to your home, and ensuring that your property is free of clutter. Gas Lights are to be maintained lit and clean. No signs shall be displayed to public view except for sale and/or rent or small home security sign.

Architectural guidelines: Any exterior modifications to your home or property must comply with the architectural guidelines set forth by the HOA. These guidelines are in place to ensure that the overall appearance of the community remains consistent and aesthetically pleasing. Approval must be requested from the Barkley Square Architectural Committee before changing house colors, doors, replacing roofs and fences if it faces the road. Plantation Shutters are to remain in place if they can be viewed from the street.

Parking regulations: Every effort should be made to park residents’ cars in the driveway. It is encouraged to have cars parked in the garage overnight to maintain the aesthetic of the community. Street parking is preferred for temporary visitors.

We would also like to share some key information regarding waste services that are provided by Amwaste management.  Garbage receptacles can  be placed by the curb on the evening before pick and must be put away, out of site, by the next evening. The collection days for our community are Wednesday and Saturday. The first collection day each week is for household garbage and small bulk/brush. Everything taken that day will be taken to the landfill. The second collection each week is transported to RePower South and sorted to separate recyclables from waste. Residents wanting to recycle are encouraged to retain recycles until their second collection day each week. Place recycling and waste in the same garbage receptacle as recycling is no longer collected separately. Submit a request for pickup for large piles of yard debris and brush at myhooveralabama.gov or call 205-739-7311. There is also a free app, myhooverconnect, that can be downloaded to schedule pick up. Branches may not be longer than 6’ long. You must also schedule a pickup if you have more than 10 bags of leaves.

We understand that it can be overwhelming to move into a new community and learn about all the rules and regulations that apply. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the covenants, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we look forward to having you as a valued member of our community.
